Bike and Bus

CART embraces the importance of not only being more environmentally friendly but also promotes a healthier lifestyle. By combining bikes and buses, CART has the best of both worlds. All CART vehicles are equipped with a bicycle rack, allowing consumers to maximize the use of both forms of transportation.

Loading Your Bike

1. Inform the bus driver that you will be loading your bike. You must load your bike from the curb or in front of the bus. Do not step into oncoming traffic to load your bike.

2. If the rack is stowed, squeeze handle up to release latch, then fold down the bike rack with one hand. Hold your bike with your other hand. It is not necessary to lean your bike against the bus.

3. Lift your bike onto the rack, fitting front wheel where indicated on the rack.

4. Raise the support arm up and over the front tire as close to the frame as possible. The hook of the support arm should rest securely on the front tire only, not on the bike’s frame.

5. Board the bus, pay your fare and enjoy the ride!

Unloading Your Bike

1. As you approach your stop, inform the bus operator that you will be unloading your bike. Then exit through the front door.

2. Unload your bike from in front of the bus or from the curb, not from the street side.

3. Raise the support arm off the tire. The support arm automatically folds down to a secure position.

4. Lift your bike out of the bike rack.

5. If the rack is empty, squeeze the handle and fold up the rack. The bike rack locks in place with a snap so you know that it is secure.

6. Step away from the bus with your bike. Always step to the curb, for your own safety and to allow the bus to proceed onward.

Bicycle Rack Guidelines

-Use of bike racks are on a first come, first serve basis. All buses are equipped with a bike rack, each accommodating two to three bikes.

-Remove water bottles, pumps and other loose items that could fall off while the bus is in motion.

-The bike rider is responsible for properly securing the bike before boarding the bus. For safety reasons, the bus operator cannot get off the bus to assist loading and unloading of bikes.

-Do not, under any condition, lock your bike to the rack.

-Children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult to load and unload a bike.

-Recumbent, tandem, motorized, three-wheeled, muddy, dirty or greasy bicycles are not permitted.

-No additional fees or special permits are required.

-CART is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged bikes.
